time sure flies...

I'm pretty bad at organizing my time efficiently so I've had to abandon my blog. I've been doing a lot of work at my internship, which is awesome.... I wish I could show what I've been doing, but unfortunately can't.  School has also been great and its finals week! Here an assignment I finished up recently, I hope you enjoy!

doing a little recon...

Here is a piece for school that I was supposed to show for tonight's concept class but I was sick and couldn't make the critique so I'm posting it here instead. Hope you folks like it!

There are still a few things I have to finish up ..like the paintings and some characters.

Some more school stuff...

about lack of postage.......

I've been busy with school and an awesome internship which has led to my blog being abandoned, but I've had a steady flow of visitors, which is great, and I want to thank all the new and old visitors that continue to visit and hopefully I'll post more stuff to look at.

I gonna try to post more loose stuff like I used to.

bear on vacation...

I've been trying to redesign the grumpy vampire idea from long ago and I was having a hard time, when I drew something that looked like a bear and I just went with it.

I'll do some more exploration on this character in the future, probably an illustration.....

Also, its my 100th post.....sweet!!

Rise and Shine!

Its been a long time since a post so here is a quick color comp. My lack of organization is the main culprit for the lack of posts, but in related news, I decided to go back to the Animation Academy for a character design class and will, hopefully, post more soon!

(PS.) I found these totally awesome links that you should check out, ASAP!!

This is a really helpful painting tutorial by none other than Bobby Chiu

Here is the link : Creature concept in Photoshop

I had never heard of this character designer before but he is really talented and if you want great examples of model sheets then here it is.....

This blog has a lot (literally page after page) of model sheets/expression sheets from Secret of the Kells, Arthur Christmas, and a couple of others...The best of all are the expression sheets.....you can't help but smile when you see the characters come to life on the page!

grayscale montage!

I've been slacking on posting but here's an experiment I did awhile ago.

sketchbook pro
For this piece I decided to use sketchbook pro entirely. I've recently found painting in Photoshop tedious and, for me at least, it usually takes the fun out of coloring. I think part of the problem stems from not knowing how to paint traditionally, other than some experience in watercolors. I figured if I would use sketchbook pro, which is a simpler program, I would be forced to change my approach.

I was able to paint these pretty quickly, which is what surprised me most, due to how simple creating custom brushes is. The only minor problem I encountered was when I saved the file in photoshop and then saved it again in sketchbook pro. (I only used photoshop to merge layers because sketckbook pro isn't very good when it comes to layer management, in my opinion) In the final image, if you look closely, you can see small ripples of paint all over and that happened after transferring the file back to sketchbook pro.

freaking great advice!

I just found out about this cool website and I'm pretty freaking inspired to create some art and share the inspiration.

Its basically a website designed to inspire people to pursue what inspires them.....and what's great about the site is that the message can apply to anybody, in any field, at any level.

My portfolio is finished!! (technically)

My portfolio is technically finished, which should be really great but I came to a realization a bit late.....I feel that the quality is all over the place and if I leave it in its current state it would be wrong and as much as it kills me to have to redo it, I'm gonna do just that.

Here are some loose sketches for my new portfolio and a couple from the old one.

I would also like to give a thanks for the people who follow my blog and would like to give my apology for the lack of updates. I'm going to post more frequent updates on how my portfolio goes within the next few days.

so a vampire and a biblical magi enter a bar.....

I'm still working on my portfolio, but in the meantime, here is some development on two different characters.
One is the grumpy vampire from long ago and the other is a variant on the "three wise men" story.
I hope you like them! :)

White Rabbit!

Here is an illustration based on a Jefferson Airplane song.

I saved a lot of versions so I figured I would show some progress on it....I'm really glad with how it came out!! :)
